Meet Stephanie
Hi there! I’m Stephanie, or you can call me Steph. I am a telehealth and outreach Clinical Psychologist based in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne (Wurundjeri country). I am also a board-approved supervisor (AHPRA), and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). I have experience across a range of public and private services; including specialised inpatient and outpatient work with Eating Disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), as well as acute concerns such as suicidal thinking, emotion dysregulation and psychotic illness. I currently work as a senior Clinical Psychologist and clinical supervisor in a public acute psychiatric ward, as well as being the principal practitioner at Stephanie Wakefield Psychology.
My approach to therapy starts with developing a strong therapeutic alliance to allow a supportive and safe space for developing insight, self-reflection and growth. I bring my own values of warmth, compassion, authenticity, flexibility and acceptance to treatment as well as the therapeutic relationship. No two people are exactly alike, so no one treatment plan is going to work for everyone. I endeavour to deeply attune to my clients, to really hear what you are experiencing and to provide flexible and responsive care. I utilise a trauma informed and neuroaffirming therapeutic approach, drawing upon evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapies, Schema Therapy, self-compassion and more. The approaches utilised in treatment are tailored to each clients' needs.
I practice primarily via telehealth, seeing clients (18+) across Australia via video or phone. Outreach or walk-and-talk sessions may be available on request for suitable clients depending on location, frequency and if clinically indicated.
Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy nature, spending time with my dogs, reading, painting, collecting plants and the occasional video game.
If you feel like we could be a good fit, reach out and we can have a yarn to figure it out.
Adult clients (aged 18+)
I aim to provide trauma informed, neuroaffirming care and I am LGBTQIA+ inclusive.
What really gets me excited is working with clients who are ready to let go of OCD and / or Eating Disorder behaviours and re-learn what a full life can be about. Click 'What I can help with' below for full list of presenting concerns I can help with.
